Drama

The weekly lessons are designed to give the students the opportunity to express themselves creatively whilst building self-confidence and developing skills such as voice projection, improvisation and teamwork.

Drama is taught by a specialist teacher to all boys, from the Foundation Stage to Year 7. Class lessons are practical in design and projects focus on developing dramatic skills for the boys’ own development rather than the preparation for performance to an audience.

In contrast to this, an annual production provides an opportunity for those senior school students who enjoy the challenge of staging a major piece of work. The Music and Drama departments work closely on these projects which can also involve the input of professional playwrights, directors and musicians. The 2007 production, The Ballad of Salomon Pavey, was a great success which culminated in a performance in the Great Hall at Hampton Court Palace.

Drama also takes centre stage in the school Arts Festival which takes place during the Spring Term. Touring performances, workshops and visits to London theatres expose the boys to a wide variety of exciting dramatic experiences.
