Religious Studies
“To encourage pupils to have a healthy respect for and understanding of the beliefs of other people.”
Religious Studies at Willington aims to introduce pupils to the scriptures. From the Foundation Stage onwards, Bible stories are read and discussed in a class context. Later in the Senior Department, more formal lessons start to explore the concepts required to confidently answer questions in the Religious Studies Common Entrance exam.
All pupils in Years 7 and 8 follow the Common Entrance syllabus in Religious Studies and the broad aims of the department are as follows:
- To encourage pupils to have a healthy respect for and understanding of the beliefs of other people
- To study in depth the Old and the New Testaments
- To develop an awareness of moral and social issues
- To enable pupils to discuss and confer about spiritual and ethical topics
It is very important, as a diverse community, for Willington School to be tolerant and understanding of all faiths and beliefs.
