In the Early Years, our aim is to develop our children into confident, independent learners, while introducing them to the beginning stages of reading, writing and arithmetic.
Pupils have the freedom to move around the Early Years setting, including free-flow to the outdoor learning area. All the practitioners work with the pupils and their parents to ensure that this first step of school life is both happy and fulfilling.
Our focus is on the children developing social skills, such as sharing and playing together, as well as communication skills and being able to express their thoughts and feelings effectively and appropriately.
We believe that learning should be fun and we try to provide as many playful activities as we can from which the children can learn. We enrich our curriculum with the ‘Forest School’ initiative in the Spring Term where they travel up to Wimbledon Common to learn outdoor skills and build on their social, communication and physical skills. The children are also taken out on trips on average once per half term where the curriculum is consolidated.
The children that move up to Year 1 are all happy, confident, well rounded and ready for the challenges of the next year group.
