Geography

Geography is taught at Willington as a modern, contemporary subject that uses topical issues to deliver an understanding of the world’s natural and human systems.

The department encourages free thought and aims to let each student draw on conclusions about the world around them by equipping them with a core set of skills.  In keeping with being a broad and varied subject, we celebrate the diversity of our School’s community and draw upon the pupils’ experiences to enrich lessons from Reception through to Year 8.  To complement what is studied in the classroom, we take our students out in the world around them to undertake fieldwork activities.

In recent years, we have studied the impact of tourism in Barcelona, investigated the causes and effects of coastal erosion on the Isle of Wight and analysed the outcomes on the local area of West Ham United’s relocation to the Olympic Stadium.
