In Reception, our aim is to develop the boys into confident, independent learners, while introducing them to the beginning stages of reading, writing and arithmetic.

We are fortunate enough to have small class sizes, which allow us to give each child the individual attention they require at this age. Each Reception teacher is assisted by a dedicated teaching assistant giving a maximum staff/pupil ratio of 1:9.

Our focus is on the boys developing social skills, such as sharing and playing together, as well as communication skills and being able to express their thoughts and feelings effectively and appropriately.

We believe that learning should be fun and we try to provide as many playful activities as we can from which the boys can learn. We enrich our curriculum with the ‘Forest School’ initiative in the Spring Term where the boys travel up to Wimbledon Common to learn outdoor skills and build on their social, communication and physical skills. The boys are also taken out on trips on average once per half term where the curriculum is consolidated.

The boys that move up to Year 1 are all happy, confident, well rounded and ready for the challenges of the next year group.
