Religious Studies

Religious Studies is an important academic subject which encourages pupils to discuss, identify, investigate and respond to fundamental questions of life raised by religion and human experiences, including questions about the meaning and purpose of life.

In an ever-changing world where people are exposed to a range of different beliefs, values and traditions, the need for tolerance and understanding can be critical for the continued existence of some societies.

Selected texts from the New and Old Testaments are studied and used to evaluate the role of the biblical material in relation to contemporary issues.  A sympathetic understanding of the main beliefs and traditions of one or more of the major world religions is expected.  To enable pupils to develop fully their religious curiosity, the teaching of analysis, synthesis, representation and interpretation is vital for learning.
