Sciences

Science is taught in a practical way, enabling our pupils to link laboratory based work with the outside world. Our approach to the teaching of Science is a process of acquiring knowledge and understanding, rather than teaching a body of knowledge.

Our aims are that pupils:

  • Enjoy Science and develop their natural sense of curiosity about the world around them
  • Learn to communicate scientific ideas and facts through a variety of means
  • Develop critical and creative thinking skills

In the Junior School (Reception to Year 3), Science is taught by class teachers who focus on introducing important scientific concepts using a variety of hands-on experiments that bring Science to life.

Pupils in Years 4-8 are taught by specialist Science teachers in a fully equipped laboratory.

Lessons are based upon an interactive approach, where pupils solve problems through scientific investigation. Practical experiments are carefully designed to illustrate concepts included in Common Entrance examinations.

Extra curricular activities include yearly visits to the Science and the Natural History Museum, Kew Gardens and London Zoo.
