Willington Annual Arts Festival

Every year, Willington celebrates the creativity of the boys by holding an Annual Arts Festival. Last year, the extensive line-up of workshops and outings was truly impressive and the boys went off timetable to experience a wide range of activities that encompassed Art, Design, Music and Drama, with several cross-curricular events, including author visits and dance instructors.

The Art Workshops included Felting, Pop Art Painting, Batik and Screen Printing, while Design activities such as Rocket building, Kite making and Architecture model building caused great interest amongst the boys. A series of activities were created around a World War 1 theme, which included storytelling, a drama workshop, a trip to watch War Horse and the visit of an actual WW1 Battle Bus. Drama included a Shakespeare workshop, a filming activity and a Pirate play. Two very interesting authors, Adisa and G.P. Taylor, conducted some of the most popular and interesting sessions. Outings to the London Museum of Transport and workshops and sketching sessions at the V&A completed the week’s events.

It was yet another successful Arts Festival for the Music Department. The boys took part in a wide variety of workshops, which had them dancing, singing and playing instruments ranging from the West End to India to Australia!
