Year 3 & 4 Residential and Reception Graduation

The Willington Week ending 12th June

This week saw Years 3 and 4 enjoying their residential adventure, giving the school a noticeably quieter feel. The trip provided plenty of opportunities for the children to challenge themselves, develop independence and build friendships through a range of outdoor activities.

In Nursery, the children immersed themselves in a water-themed week as part of their Fun in the Sun topic, exploring floating and sinking, ice investigations, bubble making and environmental awareness through discussions about protecting our oceans.

Reception continued their ocean learning with a focus on whales and dolphins, combining science, research and writing. The week culminated in their Graduation Assembly, where they performed beautifully and celebrated the end of their Reception year.

Year 1 have been demonstrating just how ready they are for Year 2, with imaginative writing inspired by You Can't Take an Elephant on the Bus, alongside maths, science and outdoor learning activities.

Year 2 explored coastal themes across several subjects, including plastic pollution, Victorian seaside holidays and beach geography, while also creating vibrant under-the-sea artwork.

Year 3 balanced classroom learning with the excitement of their residential trip, where teamwork, resilience and independence were on display throughout activities such as paddleboarding, raft building and camp life.

Year 4's week was dominated by their residential experience, with pupils embracing a range of adventurous outdoor pursuits and making memories that will undoubtedly last long after the trip has ended.

Year 5 completed their English and Maths Progress Tests and continued their fascinating study of the United States by planning road-trip routes using digital mapping tools. Their science lessons explored human development before birth and the stages of pregnancy.

Year 6 are now firmly focused on their forthcoming Leavers' Production while continuing their academic studies. This week they explored the cultural changes of the 1960s, began studying Macbeth and investigated the classification of living organisms.

With Sports Day, the Year 6 production and several end-of-year celebrations approaching, there is a real sense of anticipation building across the school.
