Sport

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We use PE to expose the pupils to a wide and varied array of sports. Throughout the year, they will practice throwing and catching accuracy, handball, dodgeball, gymnastics, climbing wall, futsal, hockey, rugby and cricket skills and tennis. Our varied programme allows our pupils to experience a wide variety of sports, which, in turn, with our curriculum sports, builds a holistically well-rounded and adaptable sportsmen/women.

Pre Prep

Our job as coaches is to develop pupils of every ability and to find a sport that they love. At Willington, we use the time from Nursery to Year 2 to the fullest. These are the golden years where so much of the sporting and technical foundations can be taught. Creating adaptable sportsmen and women is our main focus, and this is done through fun and engaging games where pupils begin to feel comfortable in the chaos of sport.

GAMES

Games lessons for us are special. It's here where we want to create memories for our pupils by allowing them the freedom to express themselves, play with no pressure in an environment where they're encouraged, nurtured and treated as children, not elite athletes. With a lot of our technical and tactical work being done during PE, it allows us to use Games for exactly that, games. Whether it’s small sided matches, fixtures or tournaments, we want our children to have as much fun as possible.

Selection

Selection criteria is simple, everyone will get their chance to represent Willington in fixtures. We are proud of our record of running fixtures for each and every child, with everyone playing at least six fixtures a term, giving all of our pupils an experience to remember. Some children like to be big fish in small ponds and others like the challenge of playing at a higher level, whatever the child wants, we listen to them because it's about creating memories for them.

We have a great group of schools that we play matches and tournaments against, as it's important to be associated with schools that have the same ethos as us. Win, lose or draw, it's about the pupils enjoying themselves as they're the ones on a sporting journey.
